Volkswagen Touran rubbing noise from engine compartment

Car: Volkswagen Touran
Variant: 1.9 tdi 90
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Leaks & Noises
when i'm driving there is a rubbing noise coming from the engine compartment. its there if i drive in a straight line or turn the steering both ways. However if i turn the wheel just left of centre then the noise goes away, but returns if i turn the steering more. The clutch had a full rebuild in febuary, and when it came back the car was ok for 2 weeks but then THE NOISE started. I had a local garage take a quick look at the problem,he doesn't have a rolling road so come only do a quick visual check after taking the car for a drive, he agreed their is a rubbing noise, and although not metel on metel, it was anoying. He said it seemed to be coming from the gearbox side of the car but he thought it sounded higher up. Has anyone had problems with strange whuring noises and if so point me in thr right direction. cheers
