Volkswagen Sharan idle speed irregular and too high

Car: Volkswagen Sharan
Variant: 2.0 Gas
Model Year: 1996
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Throttle is not properly controlled, both at idle and while coasting in gear. Idle is around 1200 cold, when warm, varies irregularly between 1400 and 2000+. Have already replaced entire throttle body at considerable expense because mechanic said that was the problem. OK, engine runs better now, but the idle control problem is still just as bad, there is obviously another problem.

Anyone with similar experience?

Thanks

Get a diagnostic scan done , rather than guessing possible causes .

Thanks for the rely. The mechanic put the thing on a diagnistic machine, which said it was the throttle body (dosselklepper). Obviously, that might have been bad, since the engine runs stronger than before, but it was not the cause of the idle speed problem, since the problem still exists. I guess a VW dealer shop comes next. I was hoping someone had had the same problem and new a fix.
