Front windscreen wipers .started to move in steps across screen, they stop, after a few seconds, will move again and stop.
this will continue in all positions of the control lever. eventually I will switch off, & the blades will gradually reset in stages

Maybe a faulty wiper motor. You could try cleaning the contacts on the motor!!!.

i know on the golfs and audi,s that the spindles that cone through the body and attatch to the wiper arms go rusty and may need lcleaning and lubricating ,the water gets trapped in them try some wd40 or similar down them
