Volkswagen Polo idle speed and accelerator problems

Car: Volkswagen Polo
Variant: 1.4 16v
Model Year: 2000
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi guys, happy easter.
I've got a 2000 vw polo 1.4 16v which is having some problems. I bought it 2 weeks ago and drove it from bradford to leicester with no problems - the clutch was a little bit hard to get used to though. Its done 51,000 miles.
Since having it, there have been a number of times where the accelarator just stops working, but the car still ticks over. If i leave it for a few hours it seems to sort itself out, but it has now done it again and won't get any better. The tick over is now playing up - it starts quickly and idles perfectly for about 5-10 seconds, then goes lumpy and cuts out. I took it to a garage who did diagnostics and it came up with 12 faults. These were reset, as were the throttle basic settings, but the codes have all returned on a second diagnostic check. The faults are:

1. throttle actuator basic settings not performed
2. long term fuel additive air, b1 range 1
3. system too lean
4. egr system - excessive flow
5. powertrain databus:missing from ABS controller
6. linear 02 sensor - open circuit
7. brake switch: implausible signal
8. 02 sensor heater circuit b1 s1 - malfunction
9. system voltage - too high
10. vss - implausible signal
11. throttle position sensor - implausible signal
12. 02 sensor b1 s2 - signal too high

I took it to a garage who say 4-5 hours just to find the problem (£55 per hour + vat = £320 before its even fixed!)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time

You've got a few faults there that need fixing and other than getting a second opinion and lower estimate / labour charge , cant see you have many other options.

sounds like fun!!! if the throttle body is cable operated, then remove it and clean it.clear all the codes. have the throttle adaption done with snap-on solus or equivelant and drive.if its a fly by wire type, then remove the throttle pedal and clean out connections, and blow out the pedal. have the throttle adaption done with snap-on solus or equivelant and drive.try it for a couple of days and code read again. if same list is present then yes, its gonna cost. if not you've narroed the search. hope this advice helps!!!
