car ran dry of oil,put in new oil,loud tapping noise and smoke from exhaust, compression on pistons seem ok, but oil in the cylinders. start when cold runs ok till warm then smoke n taps...do i need new engine

Noise could be hydraulic tappets or worse bearings or camshaft. Smoke might be piston rings , bores , valve stem oil seals etc. Looks like knackered engine . You could pull head off and have a look if you think it's worthwhile .
