Volkswagen Polo overheating

Car: Volkswagen Polo
Variant: 1.4 CL
Model Year: 1999
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Any help - suggestions appreciated with this one.

The car seems to be overheating quite a fair bit, hitting 110 degree's before the fan kicks in.

The car has already over-heated once and spewed out the water/coolant, but showed no obvious signs that it is the gasket, a sniff/taste test was carried out and was left to run for a period of time but showed no signs of the water tank pressurising.

A fix at the moment seems to be to have the front Rad fan linked to ignition to have it constantly run the fans and if the car heats to around 90 the Radiators are left on at full blast.

Any ideas what could be the source of the problem? The Radiator Electrics have already been replaces and new coolant added, but still shows signs that the Fans are kicking in at 110?

Cheers for any help

Check or replace coolant fan sensor .Usually stamped with operating temp and can vary.Dont understand your sniff test " a sniff/taste test was carried out and was left to run for a period of time but showed no signs of the water tank pressurising."What a sniff / block test does is change the testing fluid colour if it detects hydrocarbons in cooling system.Take it thermostat o.k?
