Volkswagen Polo air recirculation switch on dashboard won't switch off.

The air con switch, marked A/C and the air recirculation switch, marked with a logo are adjacent to each other on the dash just above the heater controls. The A/C switch turns on & off ok but the recirculation switch next to it comes on and won't stay off.
It consequently causes the car to mist up without turning on the AC switch as well.
Until now the car has run well and has always been serviced by a main dealer but I am loathe to pay full whack for what may be a simple job. Has anyone any ideas whether it is an easy problem to sort out or will it be a full diagnostic check with the dashboard being removed, please?

try disconnecting wiring plug from back of switch to see if any pins or terminals are loose/damaged wiring

Has it just started doing this ? Could double check operating instructions in handbook as sometimes can be baffling re.how they work with different settings .They can be quite complicated to fault find and getting it scanned may turn out to be the fastest , easiest and cheapest route in the end .

Thanks for your interest but the thing has just resumed normal service. I started the engine, saw that both the A/C and Air Recirculation lights were still on as I had left them when last driven, then I put the car into reverse to leave my drive. Whereupon the Air Recirculation light went out. It now operates on and off correctly. It must be something to do with the way the reverse gear operates the on/off switch.
