Hello to you both. The dirty throttle body is the usually cause of cutting out problems and is well within the scope of most DIY enthusiast to carry out. However it must be cleaned gently to avoid any internal scratching of the body and butterfly and after reinstallation the throttle will need to be re-adapted to the ECU so the ECU can learn the TB's new closed position, otherwise you may end up with the idle at around 1500 rpm. It is also an advantage to have the ECU's learnt values erased. You will probably have guessed that you need a diagnostic system such as a registered copy of VAG-COM to do these last two steps.
