Volkswagen Polo pedal box

Car: Volkswagen Polo
Variant: LUPO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Gearbox & Clutch
Why have a garage charged me £375 to replace clutch pedal box when I had the part quoted at £36.63 inc vat? I understand its not an easy job but surely this is well OTT? I would have done it myself if I had known.

The price of carrier / part means nothing re. labour costs. Did you not ask for estimate of fitting part before giving go-ahead ? Seems to be normal cost of this repair going by this other post elsewhere ,

2000 Polo 1.4 SE - loose clutch pedal
I took my 2000 Polo to V.W Robinsons and they said it would take them upto 4 hours to fix a loose clutch pedal. Charged at £88 per hour, plus £24 + vat for a new pedal box, I decided to wait and get it done elsewhere (hopefully somewhere cheaper) The car is still driveable but, i do need to get it done asap. does anyone know if this is something i can do myself?

any comments welcome,
thanks julian

I was originally quoted the precise sum of £150 to £250 then they did the work and now demanding £375, £125 more than the top end of the quote. Im just kicking myself cos there are 'how to' guides to changing it on net and like I said the part was less than £40. So for £40 and a weekends tinkling I could have saved myself over £300 that I'm gonna have to borrow as Im completeley broke at the mo!
