Volkswagen Polo spluttering while accelerating fast

Car: Volkswagen Polo
Variant: 1.2
Model Year: 1989
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I charged the battery and got it running but when you put your foot down to accelerate, the engine splutters? Is it a fuel problem?

suspect distributor cap/rotor arm problem. possible ignition coil. check the ignition system. if they ok, then look at the carb or inline filter blocked. or fuel pump.

I agree - had this on a Mazda 323 and fixed it by changing fuel pump and filter. Change the fuel filter first as they are cheap. If it doesn't fix it then change fuel pump too. If yours is a fuel injected car read the Haynes manual on how to de-pressurize the fuel system. Petrol squirting in your eyes is not good!
