Auto gear change from 3rd to 4th produces a whinning noise. Release of accelerator pedal allows shifting smoothly. Rest of the gear shifts are smooth.

Sounds like an internal fault but you could try changing ATF , might / might not help . Or take to a certified , local auto trans garage for assessment and report as many possible cause

What is the recommended ATF specification for 2007 VW Polo 9N.
