Volkswagen Polo car engine not heating up quick enough.

Car: Volkswagen Polo
Variant: 1.6 man
Model Year: 1999
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
hi,i have just revently bought this car, had it for 3 months now. but for the past month, it doesnt seem to start without me having to rev the engine to about 2000 rpm i have to do this for about 5 minutes before i can get going. the temperature gauge doesnt seem to move unless i'm driving local. on the motorway it drops back downto 0.00. i'm also finding that i am having to top up the the coolant level 3 times since having it. your help on this is greatly appreciated.

sounds like you need a new engine management coolant temp sensor as this sensors the engine is cold and tells the engines ecu that its colld there for its gets more fuel works like a manual choke but all controlled by the ecu and sensors nowadays this sensor may be able to get from a motorfactors but you would be best to get it from the dealers but i will leave that decision up to you hope this helps
