Volkswagen Polo starting/electrical issues

Car: Volkswagen Polo
Variant: 1.4 tdi bluemotion 1
Model Year: 2008
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
This has been an ongoing problem for 3 years now. The car won't start intermittently. I know when it's gonna start now as the abs and handbrake lights will flash and beep 3 times and also the passenger side central locking will fail. I had a new battery fitted in may 2016 it worked well till August then it started again. I saw the left rear light cluster was full of water emptied it and cleaned up bulb connectors and fitted new bulbs it then started again with no issues in August. Today lights came on again, locks didn't unlock properly and power steering failed. Turned engine off and it started fine and got me home fine. Went out 10 mins later checked rear light cluster no water in it. Went to start car and it wouldn't. Abs light on and handbrake radio said safe. Tried again and on 4th attempt it started no issue but I noticed all clocks etc have reset? It's also rained heavy today? Please help running out of solutions and it's been happening for so long!!!!

I would get your alternator and battery load tested .Even though battery new in May .Most fast fit centres or the like of Halfords usually test F.O.C.

Hi there I had a vw with the same problem a few years ago , took it to a vw centre they reset the bsi unit to virgin because the battery had been taken off wrong it seems you have to let the bsi goto sleep before you take the battery of on them about 3 minutes everything turned off otherwise you get all these different problems, body control unit if not reset properly will cause problems with ecu once it was done car started first time every time no trouble
