Volkswagen Polo car starts but idle dips and heating takes ages to warm up.

Car: Volkswagen Polo
Variant: 1.4S
Model Year: 2000
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
When I start my car, it starts ok, but then there is a dip in power (from the engine sound) and then goes back to the normal (not sure if this is called the idle). My heating is taking ages to warm up. The temp gauge on the dashboard is low until the car has been running for 20 minutes instead of 7 minutes. Not sure if these two are linked. I had the battery tested at Halfords and it registered 'good'.
