Volkswagen Polo occasionally wont start when the car has been running

Car: Volkswagen Polo
Variant: 1.4
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi,

I've got an intermittent problem with my VW polo

It always starts fine first thing in the morning when it is cold but occasionally if i've gone out in the car and left it some where for anything from 10 minutes to a couple of hours it takes half a dozen attempts to start. Whe it does start it sits at about 500 rpm for about 10 - 20 seconds regardless of whether i press the accelerator then it fires up properly and works fine. It only happens intermittently, i took it to a garage but they couldn't replicate the problem and charged me a lot of money to find nothing. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Proper VW diagnostic software can pull a jaw dropping amount of code out,I mean there's pages of fault code.
So VAGCOM or whatever it's called now ought to find code, gerneric code readers are just no good for this kind of thing.
So VAG COM equiped garage or dealer time, sorry.
Though on past VW's with similar symptoms I've got a hunch it might be the carbon canister solenoid, just a hunch,so good code scanning is needed.
You've already paid for failure so the expensive guys might not seem so dear, yes?

Firstly change your garage, if they hav'nt mended anything the most they could charge is a quick check over.
You first need to establish if the fault has left a trace in the ecu, so a code read with any results is a good place to start. could well be an intermitant misfire
