Volkswagen Passat cuts out nat high revs

Car: Volkswagen Passat
Variant: 1.9 tdi sport 130
Model Year: 2000
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
When the car has been started after a few hours or its cold and then revved over 3000rpm as revving down it will shudder or just cuts out and black smoke will come out the back. But once warmed up and driven for 5 mins it is fine again.

it has been to 3 garages including a specialist nothing can be found, it has been on 2 diagnostic machines and no faults are found.

i am trying to sell the car but would rather have it recified before hand but having a problem finding what the problem is.

any theories much appreciated

Start with the basic's first check for any induction leaks.
check for air leaks at all intake pipes and intercooler leaks..
A little safty note..be very carefull if the engine is running not only for moving parts but also as it's a diesel dont put your hand over any pipes they have very powerfull suction and dont allways stall and can cause serious injury if you know what i mean hope this helps

I have had the same problem and finally after two weeks with VW where they said nothing was wrong with my car it is now fixed. They first thought the throttle needed to be cleaned out properly and this was done but only to make the car ten times worse. Then when the car eventually cut out for them too they decided it was the air mass meter £210.- I drove my car home today and it is a good drive from the garage so I would find out if anything was wrong but it wasn't and my car is better to drive than it has ever been. Other little things such as going smoothly from second gear into third has been corrected, it doesn't sort of jump a bit or hang back when I drive off either anymore. I am no car expert and not sure if the little things are related to the main problem but that it feels having got a new car and having rid of the problem then that is for sure. I have a Passat too by the way and mine is 12 years old and has now done 109,326 miles. This is the first time I have had this problem.
