Volkswagen Golf very loud constant rattle above back driver side wheel arch.

Car: Volkswagen Golf
Variant: 1.9 GT TDI
Model Year: 1999
Categories: Leaks & Noises
I drove over a pothole on the motorway at 50 mph and a very loud rattling noise came up all of a sudden. its sounds like something has came loose above wheel arch and is now stuck there. i tryed pulling back the trim in the boot of the car to have a look but found nothing which makes me think it must b above wheel arch. i don`t know how to get into problem area though. the noise is driving me mad and i would greatly appreciate any help, thanks.
