Volkswagen Golf water and oil mix, light brown gunk on oil cap

i think i have a water and oil mix problem with the car, the oil on the cap when i take it off is like a light brown thick gunk or something, does this mean the headgasget is gone or not? and how much would i have to pay to get it fixed? pls help?

Almost definitely a head gasket, shouldn't cost more than £60, although it does depend on the car and the garage.

Yes I agrea with phil67,this is called
mayonnaising,when you buy a car always check the oil cap for this,on older cars ,short journeys caused this when the car was not getting to running temp,to get rid of moisture in your oil,which you get when your car cools down after a long run,also from a blocked breather pipe on you rocker cover(dont know how old your car is,)im better on older cars,check car for over heating,or pressure in your water expantion bottle,also a sign of head gasket problem,good luck,not a massive problem

hi i had same prob with my vw garage said all it needed was a very good long run did what they said and it worked lucky for me so try it first good luck scott...
