Volkswagen Golf flood water problems with my golf

Car: Volkswagen Golf
Model Year: 1997
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Hi there,

I flooded my golf driving through some seriously deep standing water recently and it conked out. Fortunately for me it didn't bend the pistons and after it was drained out it was fine for about a week. But then it started loosing power for a fraction of a second and sometimes longer under heavy acceleration or acceleration in a high gear. My local garage suspected some residual water in the distributor cap but didn't find anything except dirty plugs which they changed. It was then fine again but about four days later the problem reoccured. Any ideas?
