Volkswagen Golf tailgate locking faulty

Car: Volkswagen Golf
Variant: 1.6 FSI
Model Year: 2006
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
When the car central locking is on and I want to open the boot with the key, it will open as it should, but when I shut the boot again it is supposed to lock automatically however this rarely happens.
Has this happened to anyone else and were you able to fix it yourself? I don't really want to take it to VW.

It varies from car to car , year . model etc .The owners handbook on many cars usually shows you the procedure .You could try pulling the boot trim off and lubricating the linkage/acuator first with WD40 or the like , often works .
