Volkswagen Golf engine shudder

Car: Volkswagen Golf
Variant: 2.0 gti
Model Year: 2003
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
For about 3 weeks now my golf has started to shudder whilst ticking over, you can feel this through the steering wheel about once every couple of seconds.
My first thought was maybe the spark plugs but as the manifold goes over the top of the engine I can't get to them to get them out & check.
This is starting to irritate me, now my mate put it on his obd reader & no problems were recorded, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Poor Sparking can cause idle problems but if you only have this as a performance related problem i would suggest inspecting the thottle body as it is a motorised unit and is prone to carbon build up and if not cleaned on a service can lead to it sticking, they also need every now and then to be recalibrated, you need the the corect diagnostic equipment to do this, the vehicle has to be at opperating temperature and then you need to select channel 60 with the engine not running but ignition on, It should say on diag tool, performing adt, you will hear the throttle move, and then it should say ok.
Other than that check for air leaks, split hoses, breather pipes etc
