Volkswagen Golf serious leak on drivers side floor front & back

Car: Volkswagen Golf
Variant: Mk4 GTi 1.8T
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Hi, I hope someone can help me, I'm at my wits end with this!! For the past month my car has developed a leak somewhere and as a result the carpets in both the front & rear on the drivers side are soaked. It's so bad every time it rains I can end up with an inch or more of water. Due to all the rain we are having I cannot get it dried out enough to be able to track where it is coming in. I now have brown fungi growing in the carpets!!
The car does not have a sun roof but does have manual air con, I have read that it could be coming in via the air con unit (although it states that this usually causes dampness on the passenger side)or through the door seals.
Has anyone experienced this problem before? Any advice would be so appreciated. Thanks

First place to look would be the scuttle tray behind the bulkhead. There are usually one or two rubber pipes coming out of the bulkhead, these get clogged up with dirt and debris, then the water collects and then leaks into the car through the heater housing...
Hope this helps...

Check your door rubbers (run all way round frame) are intact with no splits or gaps. water can find its way in easy through these. Also check under the bottom of the door, there will be drain holes sometimes these become blocked (Your door should leak water usually when you open your door after it has been stood in a downpour)
