Volkswagen Golf white smoke from exhaust

Car: Volkswagen Golf
Variant: 1.6 gs 5speed
Model Year: 1996
Categories: Leaks & Noises
emits white smoke from exhaust when the engine is at normal running temperature. Smoke is not continous, only when i take out for a long run. Only thing changed on the car prior to the problem is that i replaced the last silencer box. No signs of water in the oil, not loosing brake fluid, plugs all seem to be firing fine. Also no water loss in the water bottle. Could incorrect fuel cause this?
Please help urgently
thanks

White smoke is usually as a sign of water getting into cylinders, but if you are not loosing any water from the expansion tank then it a little more investigation. Would definitely keep a close eye on the water level...
