Volkswagen Golf rough engine

Car: Volkswagen Golf
Variant: gti 8v
Model Year: 1994
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
i had a problem with the car starting,i changed the plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm,im pretty sure i put the leads back on properley.the car fired up 1st time without a problem and continues to do so.the problem is ,the engine sound really rough(like an old vw beetle engine),the car drives and accelerates, there is a lack of power sometimes but it sounds really throaty and the car shakes now and again at low revs.its really baffling,do not know if related to previous problem or its developed a new problem...any ideas appreciated

You will have to check the firing order is correct and the cap / rotor arm are the same as the ones you took off . If all correct and still not right , do a compression test .

would the car start and tick over if they were not the correct parts, they look exactly the same so pretty sure they are correct.

If correct parts , and firing order o.k , check compresions .
