2009 Volkswagen Caddy it won’t go into 5th gear

Check gearbox oil level and linkage for any wear first . If not that you may have to pull the gearbox end plate off and check , possibly circlip .

Obviously Iam not a mechanic I’d have to take it to one
But do they have selectors on them

Yes they have selectors , and if badly worn do cause problems . But get oil level checked and topped up or even changed before you get too deeply involved in work and costs . You could then examine the oil to see if any sign of metal pieces or other parts indicating bigger problems .
