Vauxhall Zafira high speed causes engine management light

Car: Vauxhall Zafira
Variant: 2.0 dti
Model Year: 2003
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi There,

Symptoms:

1. On motorway, if travelling above 70mph for more than about 5mins the engine management light (car with spanner) comes on and the car goes into limp mode, the fault is reset when the ignition is turned off and back on.
2. Changed glow plugs and I noticed that 1 of the 4 had soot on it; the others looked slightly brown (similar colouring to standard spark plug wear).

Otherwise the car runs very well, no flat spot, no misfiring (none noticeable) good response and torque – very happy.

Suggested solutions are:

Symptom 1 - Inlet manifold, swirl flaps, turbo waste gate or EGR valve getting coked up and / or hoses supplying them being damaged.

Symptom 2 - Coil pack

My question is could the coil pack cause problem 1 and how do I identify the parts listed for solution 1 – should I try solution 2 first, or is solution 1 easy to do?

Rather than guess , might be advisable to get a diagnostic scan and see what codes are shown .

Hi, I got a diagnostic and no fault code is shown, the technician started suggesting the egr, but to be frank I had little confidence and after reading the threads I thought I should try a few things myself first.
