Vauxhall Zafira rear n/s door lock

Car: Vauxhall Zafira
Variant: 1.8 energy
Model Year: 2007
Categories: Leaks & Noises
The door lock is jammed. The child lock is on it will not open from the outside - the central locking motor seems to operate OK. So having read a posting late 2009 on removing the door card and the use of a Haynes I have managed to release the winder, grab handle, release the internal link (to internal door release) remove the card (difficult with door shut and rear seat obstruction). I have removed the link from the lock to external handle but everything seemed to operate OK. The Haynes said to remove the lock you have to release the 3 screws to the sloping side. Can't get at these due to jammed door. Have i got to remove the door hinges or is there a short-cut? Help please!

Common fault with rear door locks on that car was the wiring harness passing through frame / pillar into door i.e broken wires . Might be worth checking .

Not sure how you will check wires without opening door! If you can access lock it may be a case of breaking it as it has deadlocked!

If door card off as stated , moving wires could be enough to get any broken wires making contact and activating lock .

This seems to be a common fault on this car .The article below , from another site explains one of the causes.

Hi
Just repaired the rear door wiring loom on a Zafira A series
It seems where the external loom touches the rear door skin the wires are prone to breaking
The problem was a rear door where the central locking wires had broken and the door wouldn't open at all
The solution was:-
Remove the securing screws - one in the centre of the pull handle - once removed remove the handle section and remove the two other screws from behind it
One screw behind the tweeter and another behind the electric window blank/switch
Then carefully lever the top of the door card over the door metal and pull from the inside - the trim will then come away quite easily
Remove the spray protector from the lock area and locate the central locking plug - pull the red clip up and remove the plug from the motor
Then using a 'power probe' or fused live wire - put power to the top pin and earth to the lower one under the top one - sounds confusing but there are three pins - one on top two under - you will see it when you get there
this should activate the central locking which will then unlock the door and enable you to open it
Remove the three bottom screws and the manual window winder if fitted and remove the door card
unclip the wiring loom and remove / rolll back the rubber cover
Repair the broken wires - (i found all but 2 had broken)
I used new lengths of wire to rplace the broken sections - the best stuff is the multi core wire
i then soldered the joints used heat shrink for the individual wires and black tape to recover them
then i used super glue to re join the rubber boot
refit and test
job done
in all start to finish was just under the Hour - DIY guys allow the extra 1/2 hour
This is also the same for rear windows that stop working except you just need to repair the wiring loom in the same place and don't have to remove the door card
cheers
Steve

Hope this helps with your problem , if not you will have to strip down door to check inside for fault .

This is a series B so I'm unsure if Vauxhall modified. I will check the wiring as suggested but I assumed as the lock solenoid operates when remote is pressed (you can feel it vibrate and hear it in the black plastic casing) so I'm assuming the wiring is OK? I will unplug and check with the trusty Avometer. If the door has deadlocked even if I drive the pins out of the hinges there is no promise that I will be able to pull the door forward off the rear pillar? I will tackle next week and let you know!

Your easiest option is to break into the lock as you probably need a new one anyway.

i had same fault on my car.it turned out tobe the wiring harness from the pillar to the door,if you open the n/s/f door you can access the o/s/r door plug and unconnect it and repair broken wires

Thanks for all suggestions. This door was open when all others were locked when I tested all the electrics. And Yes another case of 3 wires had failed and needed soldering inside the flexible link from door base to pillar. I damaged this during the wire fix and be warned you cannot buy this rubber boot from Vauxhall (have to buy the whole door wiring loom!) It all working fine now so I will make a new cover from some old master brake cylinder rubber.
