Could check the fuse (number8) under your bonnet. Also other suggestions ,

Turn the key in the boot lock clockwise as far as it will go, then press in to open with key in same position. Turn back and leave in vertical position for fob to open.

I'm sure that I've read of someone else having the same issue.

Check fuses 8 & 10 under the bonnet and fuse 38 in the boot.

Well, as an update, I appear to have got the thing opening again. In the bottom centre of the tailgate trim panel is a rubber plug. Removing this allows you to to manually open the tailgate lock. I then checked that the electrical plug into the lock was secure. Then I shut the boot lock and opened it a few times (with the tailgate open). This seems to have reset everything and it appears to be working OK now.
