It will need to be removed , stripped down and overhauled , wont be cheap .What you could do that MIGHT help a bit , would be to change the gear oil . Not really economical in most cases with a car of that year and probably better just to run it , but your decision

Another thing to consider is when you do a gearbox job , it's usual to check / replace clutch at same time and check DMF which will really add to cost if needed
