A new front strut and top mount was fitted recently. Have been having a lot of clanking going on and i was susspecting subframe bushes. I have taken car to 4 garages who say bushes ok (even though 2 did not notice some of the bolts were loose) Anyway, all bolts tight now regardless of state of bushes. Back to the strut/topmount, had a look where noise is mostly from and have noticed the capture nut/top mount is out of alignment and not centred correctly now. Any thoughts how this could happen? Thanks.

Take it back to whoever fitted the strut / mount and get them to check it under warranty .
Leaving out bad fitting or faulty parts, could this have happened because of a subframe alignement issue? Trial and error aproach "with new parts" is expensive. Thanks for reply.

Decided to take strut out myself and found the top mount nut not firmly down. It caused the plate to rub on piston threads and filed an oval hole there. I fitted new top mount and all good now.
