Vauxhall Zafira automatic gear knob broken

I’m trying to replace the broken automatic gear knob. I’ve removed the facia and leather gator then cut the plastic fastener that holds the gear knob to the leather gator. Tried pulling off the old knob but stuck very hard and tight. Will not budge. Any ideas how I do this? Thanks!

Yes the link helps. Almost exactly as described but when removing the gear knob I needed to push down hard on it first then forcefully pull up.
