Vauxhall Zafira noise like blow exhaust on acceleration

Car: Vauxhall Zafira
Variant: 2.0 DTi
Model Year: 2004
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Just got the car. It's a diesel and is making a growling noise like a blown exhaust on acceleration - it's just passed it's MOT though (so can't be that?).
Also, electrics/transmission fault light on intermittently: could this be to do with the noise as above. ..or linked with the non working alarm fob which I'm having sorted later today?

Never had a Vauxhall before...

First thing I would check would be the exhaust and exhaust manifold for leaks .As you say you have just got the car and new MOT was supplied , dont assume or rule out anything .

Can anyone tell me more about an exhaust manifold/leak. What does this look like (so I don't look like I'm clueless when I speak to the garage).
Thanks.

It could be the manifold or gasket . The exhaust manifold is fitted to cyl head and where the exhaust front pipe joins the engine .Simplest thing for you would to take car into a fast fit centre and get a free check over and report .
