Vauxhall Zafira blows hot till 3/4 mark then starts blowing cold

It blows hot air till the temperature gauge reaches 3/4 Mark then starts blowing cold until the gauge goes back to half way Mark why ?

Possibly a faulty thermostat.
'stats work mechanically,
They're closed when cold so the coolant just does the engine,
only when open does it let coolant go through the radiator.
