The problem is that are car radio won't play sound unless you fully open the back driver side door. After doing this the speakers start working

Check for broken wiring where it passes into door and set speaker balance setting .

It does sound like a wire has shorted to ground for your speaker would check that door hinge area out as previously advised and even try disconnecting it to see if other speakers function .
