Vauxhall Zafira clutch

Car: Vauxhall Zafira
Variant: 1.8 Petrol Club Manual
Model Year: 2003
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Clutch pedal intermittently staying down on the floor, can be lifted by putting foot underneath it however even when lifted difficult to get car out of gear, seems to be an issue only at low speed and only 1st gear.

Happened after prelonged period of stop start driving in traffic, left for several hours once reached destination, drove fine on way home (Bridlington to Leeds, 60 mile drive down back roads + motorway).

Any idea's what this might be? checked brake fluid (as recommended by Vauxhall mechanic?) and that was full so its not that..

Seeing more and more of these, symptomatic of a failing clutch release bearing, the design of these mean they are in contact with the clutch fingers all the time so wear out.
air gets is and causes a lock.if you like and the pedal stays on the floor, lifting it works for a while but the only cure is gearbox out and renew the slave cylinder.
Bad news is usually the clutch is on it's way out too.
