Vauxhall Vivaro wont start

Car: Vauxhall Vivaro
Variant: 1.9 td
Model Year: 2004
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
This question is actually about my mates van.
He stopped after a short distance when the oil light came on, tipped in 1 ltr, not checking.
Drove on for about 1 mile, oil light came on again, drove about 1 mile, stopped and got towed home.
Had various things happen, one being over reving, stopped it now wont start.
Has been told he may need another engine.
Help if possible please.
Thanks for looking

You never stick in oil without checking level .Too much oil can damage engine .
