Vauxhall Viva steering notchy on tickover

The steering has started to get notchy and juddery on tickover and difficult to turn the steering wheel, if you leave it for a short while it seems to improve,

It's electric power steering , so first thing I would check would be to LOAD test both the battery and alternator , checking voltage and charging rate
