Vauxhall Vectra engine management light always on

Car: Vauxhall Vectra
Model Year: 2007
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
It used to be the engine management light was on when i started the car but went off just after the ignition was switched on. Now the management light is on all the time. I havent noticed much wrong with the car. Maybe I'm getting paranoid but sometimes i think i can smell the car fumes more than i ever did, but not sure and today thought the car was a bit shaky when started cold, but for the rest of the day it was absolute fine. Any ideas? How much does it cost for a diagnostic check and would it have to be a vauxhall dealer? All replies welcome!!!!

what engine do you have fitted, you should be able to get fault codes read by any garage that has a decent code reader, although some fault codes can be specific to a manufacturer so may not come up on generic code reader, you really need to get tech 2 put on it to get a proper diagnostic run

Its a 2 litre TDI. Thanks for quick response...any idea of usual cost of these scans and do garages skip the cost of scan if you get ur repair with them?

thought the vectra had the 1.9 diesel engine in the later models, anyway there are quite a few common faults with the 2.0dt engine, check the inlet manifold, egr valve and swirl flaps are`nt coked up,check the injector seals are not leaking and that the leak off pipes are ok and not damaged, check all the vacuum pipes going to throttle housing, swirl flaps and turbo wastegate as these can chafe through or brake,if you can get a diagnostic run and get back to the board with fault codes we can give more advice, hope this helps you

You dont have to go to a Vauxhall dealer , usually a lot more expensive and most times not as good as diesel specialists .But if more convenient and some people prefer staying with dealership , your choice .Quite a few diesel specialist in Glasgow and round about area if you look in Yellow pages .Case of phoning about for best deal /advice and checking they are a good experienced company .Here is an example from another forum which explains better the problems you can have ,

Posts: 4 Finally solved the problem. Saw a diesel specialist in glasgow, he did a proper diagnostic and said both my MAF and my boost pressure transducer were faulty. He replaced both and blanked off my egr valve, now the car runs great, with no fault lights, stuttering or smoke. Can't thank the guy enough, soooo much better than the mazda stealerships diagnosis of needing a new turbo.
Have been in contact with mazda head office to complain, awaiting some form of compensation and my diagnostic payment refunded.

Will never go to a mazda dealer again for repairs or servicing.

Thanks for all advice given here.
