when i brake sometimes there is a grinding rubbing noise coming from the rear of the car does anybody know what the cause of this could be ?and the gearbox on this car seems clunky and sometimes not easy to change gear a fault ?

The noise from the rear could be the brake pads worn down to the metal. (check both pads - because if you have a seized caliper one pad could be wearing down quicker than the other)

The gearbox fault could be a problem with the hydraulic system (air locked) causing clutch drag.
Try checking the oil level in the g/box also
