Vauxhall Vectra starting

i have a 2000 vectra 1.8sxi when i go to start the car it takes a good few turns before it starts then when it doe's i am getting a bad smell of petrol both from exhaust and inside the car,once it has run for about thirty seconds it goes away... any ideas would great help, thanks dave

Make sure there are no leaks from fuel lines and check engine breather pipe not split .Check exhaust / manifold for leaks . Could also check fuel filler cap seal .
