Known and common fault , this explains it what is normally the cause ,

I have just had exactly the same problems fixed on our 2002 1.8 Vectra C. The dashboard dials would all return to zero and the alternator, ABS and engine electronics lamp would all light, occasionally inhibiting engine start when in this mode.
The problems were caused by a faulty CIM, which I believe to be a relatively common failure on Vectra C's of this age.
Although the local Vauxhall dealer told us there were no stored error codes and therefore could not carry out any repair, as soon as an independent Vauxhall diagnostic specialist interrogated the diagnostics and carried out a Mandatory ECU check, the CIM was reported as missing. Further checks on the other ECU modules revealed no communication between them and the CIM.
The CIM was replaced and reprogrammed but as Vauxhall now uses a modified version, new versions of the CIM are not compatible with older ignition keys and therefore we had to purchase two new ones before being able to successfully programme it.
All problems have been resolved and the car is currently running error free.

it's the CIM module..it'll need replacing..if you're out of warranty then it's going to be about £300 for the module and you'll need both the cars keys programming back to the new CIM
I had the exact same problem last year BUT it was NOT the ABS plug but the CIM module. Fingers cross for you ;) :D
