Vauxhall Vectra car runs on after turning ignition off but not every time please help

the car runs very well but on occasions will run on sometimes after a along trip sometimes after a short trip.

Only times I've had that problem in workshop was caused by idle speed being far to fast .Other cause on some cars with high mileage was due to carbon build up on valves .

hi.check the idle stepper motor it may have a carbon build up on the tapered seat allowing too much air to pass the valve seat,this was a common fault on this car. moley1956

suspect IAC valve or dirty throttle pot
