Vauxhall Vectra ticking over but not fireing up!

i have a 1996 1.8 vauxhall vectra ls, i had sorned it 3 months ago because unfortunatly i got layed off work, but now i have a new job, and i tried turning the car over and it would tick but not fire up, so i looked at all the posobilities i.e disconnect and reconnect all signal points, checking each spark plug has a spart in each lead, checking oil levels, checking if i the ecu has been disconnected somehow etc but nothing has worked, also i have no engine management light come up on the dash i have checked fuses but all of them is ok! i am trying to solve the situation but im clueless now and saving a diagnostic test untill completely last minute! can anyone help me?

try replacing the fuel filter cheap and worth a go
