Vauxhall Vectra dials on dashboard(eg speed, temp etc) going to 0 whilst driving!!!!

Car: Vauxhall Vectra
Variant: 1.8 ELEGENCE Man
Model Year: 2002
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
when I am driving all the Dials on dashboard(eg speed, temp etc) go to 0. It is occurring more and more each day and now when they go off....they dont come back on until I turn the car off/ on again. All the lights on the dashboard go off too and my indicators or windscreen wipers dont work when this happens. I have a screen on my dashboard that tell speed, how many miles to the galon I have left and this goes blank too.

Any ideas? I am bringing it to the mechanic tomorrow but thought I would just see if anyone can help here first

I have a 2002 2.2 litre Vectra with the exact same problem. Benn doing it for about 3 weeks now. I kept stopping and restarting the engine as I wasn't sure if the alternator was charging the battery if I kept driving however it is seemingly ok to keep going (although you're guessing your speed). Local garage couldn't figure it out and thought it was something to do with the speedo dial at the back of the dashboard. Let me know what your mechanic thought Jonidave.

Thanks for the help, I cant believe so many people have experienced this problem. It is obviously a known issue. Considering going to a solicitor unless the Opel garage take some of the cost.

My mechanic does not know what the issue is either so I am gonna print this out and show him.

Thanks again,
Joni

Ok so I had to bring the car to the main dealers (gangsters)and they charged €75 just to ut it on the diagnostics machine!

It came back showing 38 trouble codes ha ha and these pinpoint to problems with the CIM unit as expected. This will have to be replaced 1st. Then if the problem occurs then the car will need IPC

The CIM costs €473.55 and IPC €434.50.
At this point I dont know whether to just scrap the car, buy a 2nd hand runaround, pay to get it fixed or just drive it till it stops altogether lol
