heater doesnt come on when dial is turned to 1,2,3, but works when turned to full 4 works

it sounds like the motor rather than the switch that is at fault

Nope - it's a blown resistor under the glovebox on the passenger side.
Had it on mine and done a bit of research on line.
Got a new resistor from Maplins for 50p and replaced it. Was
A bit fiddly but has lasted ever since. Water gets in the bulkhead
and runs down inside behind the glovebox - the drain hole in the gutter
gets blocked. Causes moisture and blows the resistor. Hope this helps.
