Vauxhall Signum starting fault

Car: Vauxhall Signum
Model Year: 2006
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I was going to change the diesel filter and noticed a tiny spacer removed the no4 injector and leak off pipes to remove the spacer to see what it was. some diesel went into the injector hole could not find what the spacer was for so changed the filter and refitted the injector and leak off pipe. should this be a self prime system? but now the car does not run and was running fine prior to removal of injector. although the service spanner was on. the warning in the handbook says it refers to the diesel filter. the engine turns over with the key just like there is no compression. any ideas

when i worked on vauxhalls most diesels after approx 1999 you had to connect an electric pump to the filter housing to draw diesel to the pump, it may be worth a phone call to your local dealer to see if a pump is needed for your model
