Vauxhall Omega worn tyres on omega

Car: Vauxhall Omega
Variant: 3.0 V6 Elite auto saloon
Model Year: 2001
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Yet again I am having to replace low mileage tyres on the front of my Omega (2001 3.0 V6 auto saloon) with plenty of tread left across the tyre but with the inside edge scrubbed away. Last time this happened was at speed on the M4 in the outside lane when the tyre blew out, not at all funny! When the RAC came to help they checked the other tyre which was not far behind its destroyed companion. This experience taught me to keep a very careful watch on the tyres. The new tyres were balanced and the tracking etc. checked and set correctly but are the 'normal' settings correct for this car? This apparently is a common and expensive fault.
Any suggestions as to how to preserve the new tyres that I am about to have fitted?

the only thing that can make the tyres last alittle longer is check the tyre pressures every other week ajust if required but because you have such a big car and a big heavy 3ltr engine adding all extra weight on the front wheels and power steering that helps the tyres wear out just as quick and try to choose a tyre with a harder rubber ie hankook firestone or even a budget tyres these are a harder rubber so should last a little longer also have a garage check the inner suspension bushes for play and wear

Thank you for that. The tyres on the car are Michelin Pilot Sports and the rear tyres which were recently changed are Michelin Primacy HP which I am having fitted to the fronts to match up. Hard enough do you think?
Various tyre fitters have told me that the toe in can be adjusted slightly to compensate for the heavy wear on the inner rim and it would also help to keep the tyres inflated by 2psi over the recommendation of 32psi. The main tread still has loads of wear left in it it is just the edge that wears.

it sounds to me like the tracking might be out as u said it was only on the inside of the tyre u will probably need new track rod ends

I would have the camber checked, it is adjustable on the omega and in my experience it is never set properly due to someone replacing shockers or springs and not adjusting it after, normally because they don't have gauges to do. Go to a garage that has four wheel alignment facilities. Camber can wear out tyres quicker than incorrect toe settings
