This was similar to this other Vauxhall , a Meriva and it was the switches up at the pedals at fault
2013 Vauxhall Meriva depressed the clutch pedal and an emergency stop occurred any ideas please
Car: Vauxhall Meriva
Year: 2013
Variant: 1.4 TURBO
Categories: Gearbox & Clutch
We had done a couple of short journeys with stop starts 4 times when we were slowing down to change gear. The clutch pedal was depressed and it was as if we were doing an emergency stop without the brake being applied. No codes came up.

Researched this fault as I was curious and found reports of Vauxhall Meriva's that were randomly activating the braking system and performing an emergency stop . Various suggestions of cause were , by drivers hanging items (such as air fresheners etc) from the gear lever.
When changing from 1st - 2nd or 3rd - 4th, the item gets trapped under the electronic handbrake button, activating the parking brake,
Other solution ( 2 )
Invalid brake signal received CO 561 (which was an internal failure of the electronic brake), and they fitted a new Electronic Brake Control Module and uploaded new software

Wow! thank you, we don't have an air freshener hanging on the gear stick, but the second point could very well be the problem, thank you very much, I'll pass that on to our mechanic as he hasn't come up with anything yet, mainly because the fault hasn't occurred for him.

Hope it helps him in trying to solve the problem . It's not as rare a fault as I thought , quite a few reports on this happening when I delved into it . Fingers crossed .

Thank you for all your help, our mechanic changed the switch, I'm hopeful that this has cured the problem, he couldn't get the fault up at anytime, so only time will tell. Interesting enough though he did tell me Vauxhall has sent out a message (I'm assuming to all mechanics) that there could be a problem, he also said the part can be bought off the shelf which suggests that there is and they are aware of it without committing themselves.

It may have been a TSB ( technical service bulletin ) that was sent out by Vauxhall which lets them know about reports of any faults they have received and solution to rectify . Thank you for updating the forum .

Well the switch hasn't cured the problem, It returned again this week.
Our mechanic is still trying to find a solution.
Thank you for all your tips.

Our mechanic changed 2 more switches, 1 on the clutch pedal and 1 to do with the brakes. We've driven the car now for a couple of weeks with no problems.
Unfortunately we no longer have any confidence in the car so have reluctantly decided it's time for a change. Thank you for all your help.

I've had those switches causing problems on different cars and affecting the cruise control . Interesting it seems to have cured your fault , thank you for update . Perfectly understandable you no longer feel safe after what you have been through with the fault . Happy , trouble free motoring with whatever car you decide on to replace it with .
