Vauxhall Meriva runs out of power at 3.25k revs

I noticed that once it gets up to 3.5k revs the car can't go any further; almost as though it's restricted!? No warning lights on although temp sensor seems not to work

Air mass sensor is gone, relatively simple to replace but the part is quite steep
