Vauxhall Meriva not starting- intermittent- and when starts- no revs when you hit the acc pedal?

Car: Vauxhall Meriva
Variant: 1.7cdti
Model Year: 2005
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
had a fault code last mnth- which is now cleared- however the diagnostics are the same.

first- fault code to begin with was P9003. I started the car- batt light came on- but car started and ran. Then i parked up- got back in and it wouldn`t start-- looked at fuel- was in the red- very low. Went to get 5 l of fuel in a can- filled it up- then tried to start- still nothing. Got a jump start- horray!! half a mile down the road- car cuts out. would not start again all eve. in the morn- i went and it started first time- but the revs were quite uneven- like it was struggling to find the right idle. Garage i took it to read the code P9003- and said it might of just been the lack of fuel??

After 3 weeks of starting and running fine- the problem is back.

On mon it started fine and ran- but on Tues first thing- the batt light was on again- and it wouldn`t start initially. after several attempts it DID start- and yet again was struggling to find its idle speed- but eventually off I went- all day no probs with starting on several occassions throughout the day. Before i set off- I put it @ 3000/ 4000 revs and saw a trail of smoke coming from under the bonnett ( poss broken gasket somewhere?) no smoke though with revs under 3000??

Yesterday- all attempts to start failed bar one- where it scraped a start- but very diff noise on tickover- and when you push the acc pedal- no increase in revs? If you put it in gear and move fwd or bckwd- it cuts out.

There are no fault codes stored this time- but we still see batt symbol. Had batt checked today- running @ 14.4V running. Lots of fuel in it too. Oil fine. Water fine.

When I checked fuses- I didn`t have a 20A fuse for` fuel pump` at all in the slot?? I popped one in but still no start?

would a batt reset help the situation?

If anything, it seems fuel pump/ fuel pressure sensor- or just the EDU needs replacing ( reading other posts as a common fault)

Just to add to your same post on the other VX forum , are you sure that is code ? Load test your battery . When alternator charging at 14.4 usually indicates low battery charge , also check engine/ gearbox earth strap to body .

would it turn over and start- if low battery? It does start occassionaly- but as i said- it`s diff idle noise - with no chance of revving it.

and you said- engine/ gearbox earth strap to body- is this common?
